Ingredients
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
1 Quebec Quality apple, peeled and cut into cubes
3 sprigs of basil
Gin
Lemon juice
Quebec sparkling cider
Preparation
- In a small pot, heat the water over high heat.
- Add the sugar, apple pieces, and basil sprigs.
- Let cool for a few hours in the refrigerator.
- Strain the syrup.
- Place ice cubes in a glass.
- Add 2 oz of gin, 2 oz of syrup, a little lemon juice, and top up with sparkling Quebec cider.
- Garnish with a basil leaf and a slice of apple.
Tips and tricks
- Choose an apple such as Cortland or Honeycrisp for an aromatic, slightly tart syrup that balances well with alcohol.
- Leaving the water, sugar, apple, and basil mixture to cool in the refrigerator for several hours intensifies the flavors—the longer the syrup infuses, the more flavorful your cocktail will be.
- Replace the gin with flavored sparkling water or a sweet sparkling cider for an equally festive non-alcoholic version.
