Overnight Oatmeal with Apples and Cinnamon
Portions:
2Simple, comforting, and perfect for busy mornings, this overnight oatmeal with apples and cinnamon is a breakfast staple. Apples from Quebec add natural sweetness and a pleasant texture, while cinnamon wraps everything in its warm, comforting aroma. Prepared ahead of time, it makes for a nourishing, convenient, and delicious breakfast that’s ready as soon as you wake up.
Ingredients
2 cups of oats
1 cup of milk (your choice)
½ cup of plain Greek yogurt
2 tbsp. maple syrup
1 cup of grated apples (ideally with the peel on for extra fiber)
5 ml (1 teaspoon) ground cinnamon
Dark chocolate (to be melted for garnish)
Butterscotch sauce (for garnish)
Preparation
- In a blender, combine the oats, milk, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, grated apples, and cinnamon.
- Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Spoon into individual bowls or jars.
- Melt the chocolate gently in a double boiler or in the microwave. Pour it slowly over the oatmeal.
- Drizzle some butterscotch caramel over the top to finish the topping.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate for a firmer texture.
Tips and tricks
- Choose an apple likeAmbrosia or Cortland for the perfect balance with cinnamon.
- Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours—ideally overnight—so that the flakes absorb the liquid and become creamy.
- Adjust the amount of cinnamon to your liking, or add a touch of vanilla for a sweeter flavor.
- Add nuts, seeds, or a little granola just before serving for a crispy texture.
- Use your choice of milk or plant-based beverage to vary the flavors.
