Portions:
8
Preparation:
15 min.
Cooking:
30 min.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cubed
  • 250 ml (1 cup) milk
  • 625 ml (2 1/2 cups) maple syrup
  • 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) water
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg), then fork in the butter. Add the milk, mix and form the dough into a ball. Set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, bring the maple syrup and water to the boil. Add apples and cook over low heat for 3 minutes.
  3. Using an ice-cream scoop, shape a small ball of dough and drop gently into the boiling syrup. Repeat until all the dough has been used. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Serve the grandfathers and apples topped with the still-warm maple syrup.
