Apple and maple grandfathers

- 500 ml (2 cups) all-purpose flour
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cubed
- 250 ml (1 cup) milk
- 625 ml (2 1/2 cups) maple syrup
- 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) water
- 2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg), then fork in the butter. Add the milk, mix and form the dough into a ball. Set aside.
- In a saucepan, bring the maple syrup and water to the boil. Add apples and cook over low heat for 3 minutes.
- Using an ice-cream scoop, shape a small ball of dough and drop gently into the boiling syrup. Repeat until all the dough has been used. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Serve the grandfathers and apples topped with the still-warm maple syrup.
