Pick your apple at an orchard or market near you!

Longueuil, August 28, 2025 - Today marks the official start of the Quebec apple season! Les Producteurs de pommes du Québec are kicking off the harvest with a brand new visual identity: "Cueille ta pomme dans un verger ou un marché près de chez toi "*. This slogan invites Quebecers to reconnect with the simple pleasure of eating locally, while highlighting the many points of sale available throughout Quebec.

"The Quebec apple is more than a fruit: it's a symbol of freshness, pride and proximity. This new signature highlights the many ways to obtain local apples, while underscoring the remarkable work of our growers," says Éric Rochon, President of Producteurs de pommes du Québec and apple grower in the Laurentians region.

The different apple varieties will be available gradually over the coming weeks, as they ripen. All the more reason to visit orchards, farmers' markets and grocery stores regularly this fall!

Two signatures for one mission: to promote local apples
The "Cueille ta pomme" (Pick your apple) campaign invites people to enjoy an authentic local experience, by picking their own apples in an orchard or visiting a local farmers' market. It celebrates direct purchasing, local freshness and the human link between consumers and those who grow our apples with passion. More than a hundred orchards across Quebec are ready to welcome the public, and a complete directory is available at lapommeduquebec.ca/pick-your-own.

"Apple season is the perfect time to meet our producers, whether you're exploring an orchard or discovering a farmers' market. Thanks to platforms like lapommeduquebec.ca and Mangeonslocal.ca, it's easy to find a site near you and directly support Quebec agriculture," says Martin Caron, General President of the Union des producteurs agricoles.

At the same time, the Pommes Qualité Québec brand, well known to grocery shoppers, continues to guarantee inspected, traceable apples available in stores all year round. Thanks to rigorous storage and control, these apples retain their freshness right through to spring. Just look for the Pommes Qualité Québec logo on bags or stickers to make an informed choice, whatever the season.

"These two identities are complementary: one emphasizes direct contact with the grower, while the other ensures consistent quality and year-round accessibility. No matter where you choose to 'pick' your apple - in the orchard, at the market or in the grocery store - the important thing is to enjoy an apple from here," emphasizes Jérôme-Antoine Brunelle, General Manager of Producteurs de pommes du Québec.

Did you know that...
- Apples are one of the few fresh fruits grown in Quebec that are available year-round in grocery stores;
- All apples, regardless of origin, are harvested only once a year;
- Apples keep 10 times longer in the refrigerator;
- It takes 3 to 4 years for an apple tree to bear its first fruit.

The wealth of Quebec apple production
Quebec is home to 416 apple growers, spread across several regions, who contribute to an annual production of over 235 million pounds, or 5.6 million bins. For the 2023-2024 season, this production generated nearly $80 million in farm revenues, supporting the local economy and the vitality of agricultural regions.
