Pork and apple burger

Ingredients

  • 4 hamburger buns

Galettes:

  • 450 g (1 lb) medium-lean ground pork
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) wheat germ or plain breadcrumbs
  • 45 ml (3 tablespoons) chopped sun-dried tomatoes
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) chopped basil
  • 1 beaten egg

Pesto sauce:

  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) mayonnaise
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) chopped basil
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) sun-dried tomato pesto

Trim:

  • 1 Cortland apple, thinly sliced
  • 8 Boston lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, combine the ingredients for the patties. Shape the mixture into four patties about 2 cm (3/4") thick. Set aside in a cool place.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the ingredients for the pesto sauce. Set aside in a cool place.
  3. Preheat barbecue to medium-high.
  4. Place the pork patties on a hot, oiled barbecue grill. Close the lid and cook for 5 to 7 minutes on each side, turning frequently during cooking, until the inside of the patties has lost its pinkish hue.
  5. Open the loaves and toast for 1 minute on the upper grill of the barbecue.
  6. Spread breads with pesto sauce, then top with a meat patty, apple slices, lettuce and cheese.

I like with... Cabbage salad with carrots and apples

  • In a salad bowl, combine 125 ml (1/2 cup) mayonnaise with 60 ml (1/4 cup) orange juice, 1 chopped onion and 45 ml (3 tablespoons) chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper. Add 1/2 chopped kale, 2 grated carrots and 2 diced apples. Stir to combine.
