Apples au gratin with corn flakes

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter + 2 tablespoons (for the mould).
  • 250 ml (1 cup) applesauce
  • 6 large apples, quartered
  • 200 g (1 cup) sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 25 g (1 cup) corn flakes
  • 25 g (1/4 cup) shredded coconut
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. melted butter

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Butter a deep casserole dish.
  2. Pour the applesauce into the buttered mould.
  3. Melt 2 tbsp. butter in a frying pan. Add apple wedges and sauté over medium heat for 6 minutes. Transfer the mixture to the pan. Sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg.
  4. In a bowl, combine cornflakes, shredded coconut and brown sugar. Spread mixture over apples. Drizzle with melted butter.
  5. Bake for about 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
