It's also an excellent idea for a gourmet gift in a pretty jar. Simple to make, yet impressive to taste, this homemade apple caramel will delight young and old alike!

Ingredients

  • About 30 apples* to cook

* Cortland and McIntosh are good choices.

Preparation

  1. Peel and cut apples into strawberry-sized pieces. Do not include apple cores.
  2. Place in a fondue pot and cover.
  3. Place on the stove over very low heat and cook for 15 hours. Stir occasionally.

Tips and tricks

Apples contain enough sugar that you don't need to add a sweetener. For sweet tooths, there's nothing to stop you adding more to the recipe.

Try on toast, in yogurt or as a side dish for pork and chicken.
